Patrick Donovan is a queer Brooklyn-based photographer, poet and published author with a BFA from the Fashion Institute of Technology. His editorial photography has been published in Cosmopolitan, Paper and The Boston Globe, capturing cultural icons like Jinkx Monsoon and Sabrina Brier. In 2024, Donovan designed and photographed the album cover for Terre Roche’s critically acclaimed record, Inner Adult.

Donovan’s personal photo diary project, the ongoing series where do you put the things when you lose them, showcases his introspective artistry, with six volumes published since 2022. His Instagram collaborations with creatives such as Matt Rogers, Mischa Barton, Alex MacNicoll, Julian Shapiro-Barnum, Matt Bernstein and Sky Lakota-Lynch have proven him to be a sought after image maker within the zeitgeist.

Early monographs, including 2017’s sad boys club and 2020’s miss you already (sold exclusively at the landmark Strand Bookstore) established Donovan as an innovative photographer to watch, exploring the themes of identity and loss.

In 2017, Patrick's work caught the eye of acclaimed photographer Nan Goldin, following the release of his first monograph, sad boys club. She hired Patrick as her assistant after "receiving a vision" from photographer David Armstrong.

Since 2017, Donovan has built a reputation for celebrating LGBTQ+ culture and artistry. His vibrant documentation of Bushwig has appeared across V Magazine, Billboard, OUT, and The Guardian. In 2018 he was selected to be the official photographer for Sasha Velour’s Nightgowns return show at Terminal 5, following her win on RuPaul’s Drag Race.

In 2020, Donovan was a featured artist at Quappi Projects: I Do Not Ask Any More Delight: the body and contemporary intimacy alongside Clifford Prince King, Christian Schoeler, Lania Roberts and others. Donovan’s first solo exhibition I Just Thought There Would Be More opened in January 2025.
